Unions to hold forum

The unions are pushing for a public forum in Port Moresby despite police warning on gatherings.

President of the PNG Communication Workers Union Jack Boari tells Loop PNG that in a union coalition meeting yesterday, they moved to hold forums until they are addressed by the Prime Minister over many of their outstanding claims.

Boari says they will not be moved and that the unions in the coalition, namely the energy workers, maritime and transport, Air Nuigini employees and bankers unions are all on board with the idea.

Public sector unions such as the teachers and police are also showing interest in the cause.

He says unlike the proposed march by Noel Anjo and his activist group, the unions propose for a public forum to discuss the issues that they would like the government of the day to look at in terms of their members.

The union members have proposed for the meeting to begin around 10.30am at the Jack Pidik Park today.
