Two suspects arrested in police murder

Two men were arrested in relation to last weekend’s shooting of a policeman and his relative at the Vanuatu block near the Marianville, De La Salle junction on the outskirts of Port Moresby.

The two, one from Manus and one from Central Province, will be charged with murder for the killing of the Chimbu-born constable who was attached with Mobil Squad 2 based at the McGregor barracks while the constable’s male relative is still recovering at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

NCD Central Commander Jerry Frank tells PNG Loop that the shooting took place late Friday night when the police men and some mates of his tried to hitch a ride from the Vanuatu junction back to McGregor barracks.

The victim was reported to have been visiting with his family who live at the junction area.

Frank says that they managed to flag down a G4S vehicle however while they were making their way to the waiting vehicle, a white sedan which was carrying an unconfirmed number of men fired 6 shots into the group of men.

The cop identified as 26 year old Constable Ali Teine died from complications the following night while the other victim, believed to be a relative, is still in hospital.

Frank says that a motive for the attack has yet to be established.
