Tribal fights are an evil that must end – Powi

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi is calling on his people to refrain from tribal fights and embrace development tricking down to their communities.

Powi said there is no space for tribal fights in his province and called on the people to embrace change.

He was responding to new reports of killings and the possible eruption of tribal fights in the province.

He is calling on the people of Upper Mendi, Nipa and Nembi Plateau local level Governments areas led by the community, church leaders and the presidents to take control of the situation.

He said Southern Highlands provincial government under his leadership made significant progress over the past four years resulting in the province being rated as the most improved in PNG besides the Autonomous region of Bougainville by the Australia-PNG law and justice sector rating in 2014.

He said under his leadership, development was trickling down to the communities like improved road infrastructures, improved health and education facilities and there is no place for tribal fights to destroy those developments.

Powi said; “tribal fight is a hindrance to development and only destroys communities.”

“It is evil and it is anti development, it destroys lives and properties and there is always no winner,” he said.
