Tkatchenko: NFS signing is a win-win situation

Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko says the five year signing between the Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees and the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) is a win-win situation for everyone.

The signing will see the National Football Stadium (NFS) remain as the home ground for the SP Hunters for the next five years.

“This agreement will concrete the longevity for the PNGRFL. It will ensure that we tick all the boxes for the future development of the facility.

“As you know, this is the first stage; there are still other stages to go that will enhance the use of the facility in the long term.

“We have currently the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup using the NFS, and then we have the Rugby League World Cup next year. So as you can see, the NFS can be utilised in many different ways.

“But for our national sport, this gives the confidence to rugby league and helps the government to fulfil its objectives to make stadiums like the NFS become self-sufficient in the long term,” said Tkatchenko.

Chairman of the PNGRFL, Sandis Tsaka added on thanking the government for their continued support to rugby league.

“The sport as a whole is grateful for the support that the government has provided through the partnership with the Oil Search and we see this five year partnership as a way to further develop rugby league in PNG,” said Tsaka.
