Terminations highly suspicious – Polye

Opposition Leader Don Polye says the timing of the sacking of the two top investigators is highly suspicious and raises a lot of questions.

Thomas Eluh and Timothy Gitua were terminated yesterday with different reasons  respectively.

Eluh was dismissed on conduct charges while Gitua is  on a case involving a weapon being discharged in a night club.

These two senior officers were heavily involved in investigations that led to the warrant of arrest for Prime Minister Peter O’Neill which is now before the courts.

Polye says interference from the government in constitutional offices is unconstitutional and marks the end of democracy.

“I call on the police commissioner to revise his decision even though there might be some justified reasons,” he urges.

He said their terminations were not right in the eyes of Papua New Guineans as these officers were in the forefront of investigations involving corrupt practices in the public and private sector.

“Now the people of this nation believe the terminations are to do with protecting the Prime Minister,” says Polye.
