The team behind the pageant’s contestants

Trying out in the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) PNG is obviously not an individual effort.

A team is involved in prepping contestants for necessary skills such as public speaking, conversation skills and posture.

But while the judges looked for these traits, the public rather admired the attires worn during the pageant week and the crowning ball.

Last week proved no different as six local designers pulled out their best to beautifully dress each contestant they were assigned to.

Earlier this year, six designers were picked from the MPIP PNG Project Runway event held at Lamana Hotel.

Each of these designers was paired with each contestant, and they are:

Miss IBS (Samantha Kuase- Xkenjik Siaguru

Miss Italpreziosi (Dorothy Elliot) - Luania Temu of U’i-tiki Fashions

Miss ITI (Rose Lakoro Pitoi- Elizabeth Omeri

Miss Queen Emma Chocolates (Lois Ilave-Natasha Tamanabae of Elite Fashion Club

Miss PBF (Melody Leke-Anna Amos of AA Tribal designs

Miss PAG (Kellyanne Limbiye- Tabu Pelei-Warupi

The crowning ball on Saturday in particular was when all exciting ideas translated into amazing outfits and were displayed on the runway; mixing fashion with a traditional touch that tells a story of its own.

The chosen designers are women who operate from their homes, small entrepreneurs in a cottage industry, who were given the opportunity to showcase their skills.

MPIP PNG chairperson Katherine Jonhston said the pageant was proud to support local designers and create an environment for artistic development in this area.

Wantok Clothing, the winning designer from the project runway, will travel with Miss PNG 2016, Kellyanne Limibiye, to Samoa as her stylist for the Miss PI pageant.

The pageant believes that Miss PNG, as a cultural ambassador wearing their designs, will speak volumes for them and PNG.
