Taekwondo seminar to promote sport in Highlands

A taekwondo training seminar will be held in Goroka from September 19-23 aimed to develop and promote the sport in the Highlands Region.

The seminar will be conducted by Stones Taekwondo for taekwondo fighters and interested participants in the region.

This seminar will involve training on the latest sparring techniques and the scoring system used in the Pacific Games and the recent Rio Olympic Games.

Stones Taekwondo owner and promoter master Jamuga Stone said the interest is building as participants look forward to the training.

Stone encourages all Highlands clubs and their provincial Teams to do early registration and medical checks by September 17.

The training seminar fee is K135 per person and the Goroka Open tournament fee is K35 per fighter.

Similar trainings are planned for Kimbe on October 10-15 followed by New Ireland Province.

Stone said the seminar is important for Kimbe as Taekwondo athletes have to learn about the sparring techniques and the scoring system that will be used during the PNG Games on their home soil.

The training seminar will be followed by the Goroka Open scheduled from September 24-25.
