Surf PNG invited to international meet

Surfing Association of PNG has been invited to attend international event Surfing Social Conference to promote PNG’s surf tourism.

The event will be held from February 8-13 at Waikato University in Raglan, New Zealand.

SAPNG president Andrew Abel will be present at the event to address surfing academics from around the world and show case what we have achieved in developing and promoting surfing and surf tourism.

This invitation follows on from Bali at the 2015 Global Social Good Surf Conference for world surfing academics and activists.

Abel believes this invitation will give SAPNG an opportunity to once again show case to the region and world of what we have achieved over the last 29 years in developing our PNG home grown surf model and polices.

He hopes to learn and engage with the traditional Maori leaders to better understand their history and in doing so, share his experiences as the president and co-founder of SAPNG with them in return.

The conference hopes to build on the global momentum in developing issues such as gender equity within surfing cultures and the communities in which they’re imbedded.
