Sir Michael to be honoured in Walk for Life

The Walk for Life Wewak chapter will pay respect to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare tomorrow.

This is part of the 80th birthday celebration for the East Sepik Governor, and nation’s first prime minister.

Sir Michael turns 80 today, and people of East Sepik, current and former parliamentarians and VIPs are now honouring the life of the longest serving parliamentarian in the Commonwealth at Sir Michael Thomas Somare Stadium at Kaltex.

National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, a man on a mission encouraging a change of lifestyle to live longer will be leading the walk.

It will start at Moem Barracks at 5am and finish at Pora Oval, Kaltex.

The walk will coincide with the official launching after the introduction of the chapter two months ago in the East Sepik capital.

NCDC Governor first secretary Terence Moka said: “Governor Powes Parkop will be paying respect and tribute to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare by launching the Walk for Life program in Wewak on Sunday to this great leader.”

The walk is open to all Wewak residents.
