A major road upgrading is underway on the Nupirioma-Teta road in the Imbonggu district of Southern Highlands Province.
Community leader from the area, Chief More Kiyo said the upgrading was first since the road was built in 1985.
Chief Kiyo thanked Minister for Works and implementation Francis Awesa, also the Imbonggu MP for allocating K300,000 for the upgrading of the road.
He said the condition of the road had deteriorated over the years due to lack of maintenance and current upgrading was a big relief for vehicle owners and the travelling public.
The work, carried out by Department of Works in Mendi include expanding the road, re-gravelling, extending and relocating a bailey bridge with new timber decking over the Epipa bridge and culvert at Kosempa creek.
The road serves more than 2,000 people in Warabung, Pongeta, Kurupin, Yorweri, Kenarol, Kembode and Tipra village bordering Mendi district.
