Seeds to help women farmers in business

Trukai Industries’ is not only about rice but also for total agriculture.

This week, Trukai delivered a box of vegetable seeds to PNG’s largest network of farmers, the PNG women in Agriculture (PNGWiA).

The assorted seeds were imported from Terranova Seeds in Australia by Trukai for the women farmers.

Terranova is one of the leading suppliers of seeds in the Asia Pacific region.

Trukai rice project manager Humphrey Saese said one of the biggest problems in the country was ‘access to quality seeds’.

"In recognition of this, Trukai is keen to support women farmers with access to quality seeds,” Saese said.

“PNGWiA signed a MOU with Terranova Seeds, Zenag Chicken and Trukai with the rice trader to facilitate this arrangement,” said Maria Linibi, president of PNGWiA.

The seeds will be used in a partnership program with Trukai and Zenag.

Trukai is a major supporter of PNGWiA in a number of farming and collaborative activities in the country.

The company has recently invested in a national rice development regime in collaboration with landowner incorporated groups and farmer networks.

Its agri-farms at Erab in Morobe also have cattle and work on development of livestock feed.
