Rural areas link-up after 41 years of neglect

A village in the Yangoru Sausia district in East Sepik province will now access the government’s basic services after 41 years of neglect.

The people of Kamatogu village have expressed gratitude to the local member and Minister for Trade Commerce and Industry, Richard Maru, for recognizing their need to have road access.

These people have had no road or access to basic services like health and education for the past 41 years.

Children walk kilometers to attend schools and the sick die along the road whilst walking distances to seek medical treatment.

In welcoming Minister Maru to their village recently, the people   expressed the hardships they’ve gone through over the years and say the new road access will finally enable them to receive vital basic government services which were non-existent over the last 41 years.

The 13 kilometer road will be constructed at the cost of K1.4 million under the funding allocated by the National Government to develop the Sepik Plains Special Economic zone in Yangoru-Saussia District.

Minister Maru when speaking at the gathering at Kamatogu village highlighted that road access will pave way for any Government services to be introduced into an area.

“Without road access, people will not receive services like Health and Education”, said Maru.
