Ruling on Two-Mile armed hold up this week

The Waigani Committal Court will make its ruling this week whether it has sufficient evidence to commit a youth to stand trial at the National Court for allegedly robbing a student at Two-Mile.

Billy Dim, 22 of Sumae village, Daru, Western Province, will return to court on Friday (April 8) where the court will make a ruling into his case. He remains in custody at Bomana till then.

He was arrested on Nov 10 last year for allegedly causing unlawful wounding to a female IT student from the Tafe College. Dim and three other accomplices staged an armed hold up using bush knives.

It was alleged they held up a bus 11 travelling the Town to Boroko route at Two-Mile hill around 10am on Nov 6 last year. They stole a Nokia phone valued at K300 from a female passenger and injured both her hands with the bush knives.

A struggle took place in the bus and Dim was overpowered by male passengers and brought to the Four-Mile traffic police where he was arrested. He was charged with unlawful wounding and armed robbery.

Meanwhile, a warrant of arrest is out for a minor from Hela Province residing in Port Moresby after he failed to attend his case at the Committal Court following his arrest.

The 17-year-old was arrested and charged for attempted murder on March 15.

It was alleged he attempted to wilfully murder Frank Nindikuai on March 12 at Gerehu stage 6 around 2.20-3am with a bush knife after he found his elder brother lying on the ground.

The accused slashed Nindikuai on the cheek, cutting his upper left chest and chopping his left thumb. This happened after he was woken by the noise of drunkards and found his brother lying on the ground outside the house.

His case is returnable on May 2 at the Committal court for a review into the arrest warrant.
