Record of interview yet to be done for Baruni rape

The Record of Interview for three youths accused for the sexual penetration of two minors at Baruni in April are yet to be done by police three months after the case was first mentioned in court.

The accused; Ganima Samuel, Frank John and Pakanda Las made their third appearance at the Committal court on charges of abduction, deprivation of liberty and the sexual penetration of two girls below the age of 18 years.

The incident took place on April 3, 2015 at the Motana settlement near Baruni dump.

The girls were aged 10 and 13 years at that time.

Police Prosecutor Chris Iga informed the court that investigations by police are nearing completion with medical reports of the two girls obtained.

However he said the record of interview is yet to be done seeking an adjournment of two weeks for that to be done by police.

Magistrate Cosmos Bidar said the case has gone on for three months now and if nothing is done within the two weeks, then their lawyer can make an application to strike out the case.

It is alleged the three with another unknown suspect were under the influence of alcohol when they came across the two girls at Jack’s Store Motana settlement, Baruni dump.

The girls were abducted from the store whilst making their way home and taken to the mountain top of the Eda Ranu Southern Cross Tanks were they were sexually penetrated.

One girl sustained serious injuries that required medical attention.

The case is adjourned to August 5 while the accused remains in custody at Bomana.
