Project Runway supporting women entrepreneurs

The Miss Pacific Island Pageant PNG will stage its project runway at the end of this month, July 30.

The runway, to be held at Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby, is to attract local designers to show off their work.

This is with the objective to select a fashion stylist for Miss PNG, the PNG entrant to the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant in Samoa in December. This will also provide local talented designers a unique opportunity to showcase their work on the regional platform at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.

According to the committee, there will be three categories on show at the Project Runway; the traditionally inspired dress, sarong wear and day/evening wear.

Local designers have been invited to create pieces in all three or just one or two of the categories.

There will be cash prizes and the overall winner will travel to Samoa to dress Miss PNG at the Miss Pacific Island Pageant in December.

According to the committee, three international judges have confirmed attendance to the Project Runway. One of them is TAV designs from Cook Islands whose collection was worn by Prince William and Kate Middleton on their tour of Solomon Islands in 2012.
