POMRFL remembers Late Lloyd Robson as Legend

The Port Moresby Rugby Football League remembers the Late Lloyd Robson as a great man and a Legend.

Late Robson, who is from Banora Point in New South Wales, passed away on Thursday, September 29 at the Tweed Heads Hospital in Queensland, Australia.

The Lloyd Robson Oval, now redeveloped into the National Football Stadium in Moresby, was named after the Late Robson.

Chairman of the SP POMRFL Dr James Naipao hailed Lloyd Robson as a name that has been kept and attached, fostered and will be remembered for a very long time, a name synonymous with POM rugby league.

Robson was the grounds keeper/manager and referee of the Lloyd Robson Oval back in the 70's and did a lot for rugby league development back then until he moved back to Australia in the 80's.

The football field was named after him for being the caretaker for many years.

Lloyd played in the reserve grade for the Hawks team which is one of the founding teams for POMRFL.

He coached the U21 team for Hawks in 1970-1972 where they won the premiership three years in a row at PRL.

Naipao, on behalf of POMRFL board, delegates and supporters, sends deepest condolences to the family and friends of late Lloyd Robson in Australia and PNG.
