Police to beef up security at Jack Pidik

Police presence at the Jack Pidik Park and Five-Mile roundabout will be beefed up tonight following the high harassment cases reported on social media as well as the mainstream.

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Ben Turi confirmed that police from Saraga Police Station will assist to provide security from tonight onwards.

They will join the NCDC security personnel and NCD reserve police.

Turi said the Christmas lighting and activity at Jack Pidik Park won’t be stopped as the police fully support NCD Governor Powes Parkop’s initiative.

“We will not allow criminals or hooligans to stop the initiative by the Governor,” Turi stated.

“The Christmas activity will continue and we will support it, starting tonight, as we want women and children to walk around freely in the night like other Pacific countries.

“There will be a lot of police presence there so that the public will be free to move around and enjoy the lights,” he said.

Parkop said they did cater for all those possibilities from the beginning however, it seemed as if what was put in place is inadequate.

Therefore he met with Turi so that the regular police can come on board to back up the security on ground.
