Pokili committees attend roles and responsibilities training

Forty committee members of the Pokili Wildlife Management areas, in West New Britain, were taught how to carry out specific roles in the office.

They were trained on the roles of office bearers, leadership traits, planning, report writing, financial accountability and evaluation.

The event was jointly facilitated at Rapuri village on April 19 by Mahonia Na Dari, the local marine conservation NGO, New Britain Palm Oil Ltd and United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) project officers.

The Pokili WMA will hold fresh elections for new office bearers and committees. Mahonia Na Dari projects officers Nellie Bou, Stephanie Tangole and George Ulae, together with the CEPA rep Kepa Kumilgo and NBPOL community engagement officer, developed the manual for training of both Garu and Pokili WMA committees.

Participants at the event expressed gratitude and acknowledged the work done by those officers.

We have not been properly trained and this is the first of its kind. We are happy that this training will assist us do our jobs well and we will be accountable for our actions, they said.

Thank you to Mahonia Na Dari and NBPOL for taking the initiative to facilitate this important training for us.

Participants will be presented their certificates at a later date.
