PNGNRL say 2016 Digicel Cup a success

The PNGNRL say the 2016 Digicel Cup season was a successful one.

Speaking at a press conference this week, PNGNRL administrator, Stanley Hondina said the change in the draw format to a round robin system brought the game to all different parts of the country.

“The huge challenge was changing the draw format. I think the rugby loving people of this nation have enjoyed this change as they got the chance to see all teams partaking in the competition in their respective towns,” said Hondina.

Hondina added that the referees were another reason for a successful season.

“They have been so faithful week in and out on their appointments. It’s a tough job but you boys did well,” said Hondina.

He finished by thanking the individual franchises saying without their support over the years, the competition would not have survived.

“Your resources, time and efforts are very well appreciated by the PNGNRL.

“Thank you to the PNGNRL board and chairman, Sudhir Guru for all your time and effort to ensure this entity survives.

“Thank you also to our naming rights sponsor Digicel and platinum category sponsor SP Brewery for all your support to get this competition running especially in these tough economic times,” said Hondina.
