PNG U20 women get K2 million boost for FIFA World Cup

Papua New Guinea U20 women soccer team is receiving a sponsorship boost of K2 million from the National Gaming and Control Board.

This funding will assist the team in its preparations towards the FIFA U20 World Cup  which is being held from Nov 13 to Dec 3 2016 in Port Moresby.

The funds will be paid in installments following a dummy cheque presented today by NGCB acting chief executive officer Imelda Agon to PNG Football Association president David Chung.

Agon was pleased to announce the funding as part of the government’s contribution to prepare the team for the World Cup as they’re mindful of the 15 countries coming to participate.

“Sports sets a platform as a stepping stone and I would like to congratulate the president and his team for the effort made in bringing the World Cup to PNG.

“Whatever you do leading up to the competition, we are behind you,” she said.

Chung thanked the government though NGCB for the sponsorship as this will go a long way in preparing the team.

He added that it is a morale  boost for the team as they prepare to take on 15 countries and it’s also a great challenge for PNGFA to portray to the world that “we are not what they think’’.

The funding will also be used for training camps overseas leading up to the World Cup.
