PNG go down to Guam in men’s basketball

PNG suffered their second defeat in the Pacific Games tonight in men’s basketball.

They were thrashed by a highly fancied Guam side, 103-53.

Guam had height advantage, Guam showed no mercy in the first quarter 24-12.

The visitors extended their lead in the second quarter 52-24 with key shooter Jesus Cruz shooting eight 3 poiners from 10 attempts.

In the third quarter, PNG could not keep up with the fast from Guam and trailed by 45 baskets at the end of the third quarter.

The final quarter was a piece of cake for Guam as they ran over PNG with 3 points shots one after another by Joseph Jnr Blas and Cruz to take their score up by 50 points at full time.

Despite the loss, PNG has finished first and are through to the qualifiers for the medal playoffs.

In second place is Guam followed by Tahiti and Fiji.

PNG will play Fiji to qualify for the gold medal play off while Guam will take on Tahiti at the PNG Power Dome.

The winner of these games will qualify for the gold play offs while the losers will play for bronze.
