PNG determined to bring back regional crown this year

Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG is determined to bring back the regional crown this year, from the regional pageant.

This motivation began with current Miss PNG Abigail Havora, winning the crown and title as Miss Pacific Islands last year.

The grooming preparation is already underway, beginning with the contestants for the national pageant.

Deputy Chairperson Molly O’Rourke said the committee has broadened its activities to prepare contestants for the regional pageant in December, in Samoa.

For the first time this year, the pageant has separated the judging categories, into two separate events, she said.

“As you know this is the 30 years for MPIP on the regional pageant, and on the 29th last year, Abigail Havora was crowned MPIP PNG so yes we have decided to change our event this year.

“Instead of all our categories displayed one night, we have decided to have the topic presentation with is the first pre-judging of the contestants, and that will be in an open forum, at 6pm, at the Crowne Plaza hotel,” she said.

We’ve decided this year, because we won the crown, we are incorporating a lot of entertainment, things like modern contemporary. We are connecting PNG with the rest of the region.”

She said the contestants will be undergoing trainings with Toast Masters of the Swire Group, allowing the contestants to speak well and lay out their presentations in a proper manner.

There’s a lot happening and we hope that at the end of the pageant week, the girls will be able to take something home with them,” Molly added.
