PNG aims for fourth win in men’s basketball

PNG Marlins will be aiming for their fourth win when they take on Pacific Games bronze medal holders Tahiti in the men’s basketball tonight at the BSP Arena.

PNG has so far won three out of four games after losing to gold medal holders New Caledonia in their first game. The home boys defeated American Samoa, Fiji and Nauru. 

Tahiti has won all their four matches against Kiribati, Solomon Islands, silver medal holders Guam and Samoa.

This match is expected to be a showdown in front of a sellout crowd.

PNG will be led by captain Dia Muri and playmakers Wright brothers James and Allan, Gabriel Elavo and Matiineng-Iakah Leahy.

Tahiti boasts key players Rahitiarii Teriierooiterai, Andy Commings, Derick Scott and skipper Ariirimarau Meuel.

A total of 10 countries are competing in men’s basketball. The current top six are American Samoa, Fiji, Guam, PNG, Samoa and Tahiti while defending champion New Caledonia has dropped to top ten.

The final playoffs will start on Saturday while the medal playoffs will get underway on Sunday at PNG Power Dome.
