PM to be personally served on UBS case

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will be personally served a copy of an application before the Supreme Court by the opposition challenging the government’s decision to acquire the K3 billion loan from the Union Bank of Switzerland.

The direction came from Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia today while handling matters before the Supreme Court.

Sir Salamo told the Opposition leader’s lawyer, Loani Henao, to personally serve documents relating to the case on the Prime Minister.

The Chief Justice issued the direction today after the court was informed of service of documents being done to offices of the PM, the National Executive Council, State and Oil Search last month.

He said the PM must be served properly and in person and not through his office.

Henao told the court that despite documents being served to the above parties in the case, he has not received any notice of appearance.

The Australian branch of the Union Bank of Switzerland was served notice of the case on June 3.

The matter will return to court on June 14 for further directions on the case.

Opposition Leader Don Polye last month re-filed the Supreme Court case challenging the legality of the government’s decision to acquire the K3 billion from the Union Bank of Switzerland.
