Planned protest on schedule

The planned peaceful protest for March in West New Britain is on schedule, say organisers.

In a statement, the organisers assure the business community in Kimbe that the march will be peaceful.

Organiser Casper Reure thanked Governor Sasindran Muthuvel for welcoming them to stage the march. The governor also cautioned them to follow proper procedures.

Reure said the march will be cancelled if rumours of disorderly activities arise.

“I would like to assure the Provincial Government and all the business community that the march will be done peacefully and nothing will happen.”

He said the march though it will be peaceful, will contain some issues which will bring anger and disagreement but it will be contained in a petition which will be presented to the Governor and his two open electorate members.

“I would like to inform the public and people of West New Britain, the march is a peaceful march and we will get the march in order as soon as we receive clearance from the Provincial Police Commander and Kimbe Town Council.

“I am also happy to hear that the Provincial Administrator is aware of the march and I will confirm and advise publicly in the next two weeks soon after all logistics arrangements are in place.”

The three main issues that will be highlighted are the legality of Asians doing businesses in the province, Provincial Health Authority to conduct inspectiosn of all fast food outlets and for the provincial government to appoint a Town Planner.

Meanwhile, Muthuvel in an exclusive interview with Loop PNG again reiterated that he is accepting whatever petition the protesters will be giving him but warned that their intentions must be right and not have other motives.

“I am happy to accept whatever the concerns are, but it must be genuine because there are many other people involved.

“Everybody seeks attention and wanted to be popular but in the long run will not contribute to the development of the province.”

He said some of the issues raised did not require him to act as he had no legal power to move or act on them.
