Pirates sail off with 12-5 win over Rovers in Men's Division

Pirates showed class today beating Rovers 12-5 in the men's division games of the PNG Power National Softball Club Fast Pitch tournament.

Winning the toss, the Rovers elected to field first sending the Pirates from Mt. Hagen into bat. With bases fully loaded, points were there for the taking and they got their first run after a hit by pitch ball allowed Chris Soten to run home from the third base.

Loose balls delivered by Rovers pitcher, Adneil Kouse cost his side two more points with runners going home.

Two more runners sprinted home after Robert Basse smashed one to the outfield. All of the Pirates five runs in the first inning were scored when they were two down.

The Rovers managed to score a point at their first turn of bat but the Pirates continued to make it look easy, piling on three more runs to lead 8-1 by the bottom of the second inning.

The Rovers from Madang knew they had to make a change and brought on Marshall Kouse to take over from Adneil in the pitching department. But the runs kept coming easy for the Pirates who added another three points to lead comfortably 11-1 at the top of the third inning.

Despite a late fight back from the Rovers, it was too late when the game was called off at the bottom of the fourth inning after the mercy rule was applied.

In the other men's results  today, Yokomo Def. Valley Mantas 15-1, Bears Def. Owa Heads 8-0, 09ERS Def. Kalibobo Reds 5-4 and Defence Def. Valley Mantas 7-4.

Finals for the men's division will start tomorrow morning.
