Pini candidate for athlete’s representative

Papua New Guinea’s swimming sensation Ryan Pini, New Caledonian Nicholas N’Godrela and Guam’s Derrick Mandell are candidates for the athletes’ representative to the Pacific Games Council.

Hanisi Visanti, the administrative officer to the Oceania National Olympic Committee, said the trio are candidates to represent the athletes on council and current she and her team are conducting a secret ballot based with education.

Visanti said the 2015 Pacific Games is not about playing sports and winning medals, there is education and leadership mentoring done by the Oceania National Olympic Committee and athletes are casting their ballots for who they think should represent them.

She said 250 athletes have passed through their booths and their volunteers are educating them on Leadership, Playing Sport in True Spirit, Playing it Safe with regards HIV/AIDS and Go Green on the conservation and environment.

She said HIV/AIDS and the environment, especially sea level raising is a concern in the Pacific and every athletes must know what difference they can make in the Pacific…..PACNEWS
