Pepes go down to Zambia

PNG Pepes went down against a swift Zambian side 61 – 45 in Day 2 of the 2016 Missions Food Nations Cup in Singapore yesterday.

The Papua New Guinea girls got off a slow start in the game due to a hasty Zambian team that got of to a flying start in the opening quarter.

However, Papua New Guinea quickly realised the pace and changed their game as they tried to make a comeback but Zambians put themselves on the line to take the lead in the first quarter with 17-9.

The second quarter took a turn as Papua New Guinea started off strong when they put up a strong defense and begin to increase their counts but could not hold off the Zambians scoring drive that maintain their  lead with 30-24 in the first half.

In the third quarter, Zambia started off strong with as they unleash their key players into the courts to capture an agility  performance that set them organized as they limit Papua New Guinea’s chances of scoring and further their lead to 47 – 34.

Both teams continued to persevere for the final quarter, with Papua New Guinea scoring goals with every chance they had.

Despite Papua New Guinea’s determination, Zambia obtained more ball possessions that enabled them to control all aspects of the game  as they scored and defended to end Papua New Guinea with a 61-45 victory.
