Palais encouraged to follow core values

The Papua New Guinea rugby union women’s team Palais have been encouraged to always follow the game’s core values both at the local and international level.

The players were encouraged by PNG Pepes team captain Lua Rikis during their farewell today by the High Performance Sport Southern Centre for Excellence.

Palais depart the country this week to play at two events at Fiji in November.

The 15s team will play against Fiji on November 5 to qualify for the World Cup Qualifier.

The 7s team will participate at the Oceania Sevens Championship from November 11-12 against Fiji, Australia, Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga and the Solomon Islands.

Rikis urged the players to follow the rugby’s core values that are teamwork, enjoyment, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.

Rikis said, “You have to find your core value and have self-talk to boost your self-esteem and by having self-talk you gain self-confidence.

“You have to have confidence in your team mates, always stay in the game and discipline yourself in training and respect your team mates.

“Know your value which is what pushes you and encourage each other to keep doing that and don’t forget to have fun.”

“This is your chance, you have only one game to qualify for the World Cup Qualifier so aim hard to win to get to the next stage.”
