Paga Hill ring road nearing completion

The ring road around Paga Hill in Port Moresby is nearing completion.

The ring road will be four lanes and the existing road from Ela Beach Roundabout to town will also be converted to four lanes.

The K50 million 2km road now has only two lanes with work to commence soon to extend both the Stanley Esplanade end and Ela Beach end to four lanes.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop said that the ring road looks outstanding and is going to change the face of that part of the city.

Parkop said this road is vital and critical to the successful hosting of the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit which is very important regional international event.

He said Paga Hill is a prime land and it’s an iconic part of our city with plans to construct the APEC Convention Centre, hotels, restaurants and cafes along the foreshore once the road is completed.

Paga Hill will be the main centre for APEC Leaders’ Summit and the APEC Convention Centre will be built over the sea near a jetty.

“The area will be a new social and economic hub for the city and it is an ideal spot for APEC when it comes to security.

“We have to take security seriously as we have high profile international political leaders who will be coming and they must be given the highest level of security.

“This area is the perfect location to host APEC meetings as it will be easy to close down the ring road from the public during the meeting that is why we are spending so much on it,” Parkop said.

Ela Beach will also be extended 100 meters out into the sea with a new beach and recreational facilities to be constructed.
