Ombudsman team to celebrate 40th anniversary tomorrow

The Ombudsman Commission will tomorrow celebrate 40 years of work as a critical partner in the ongoing development of the country.

Acting Chief Ombudsman Phoebe Sangetari said the commission’s input into the community was one of the reasons for a reasonable degree of good governance and quality leadership in the country today.

“Forty years on despite whatever the challenges it has faced, it is fair to say the commission has lived up to its duties and responsibilities and the general expectations of it by the founding fathers of the nation and the people,” said Sangetari.

She said that the commission would continue its work to aspire to fulfil its constitutional mandate of promoting good governance and quality leadership as an oversight agent.

Celebrations for tomorrow will include a float and information booth set up at the amphitheatre at Vision City and Stop N Shop Waigani Central that will run from 9am to 3pm.

Celebrations will also take place in Lae, Mt Hagen and Kokopo.
