Oil Search says no to violence against women

Oil Search showed their support last Friday in marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Staff and their families took part in a march in downtown Port Moresby to help spread the message to end all forms of violence against women.

They were joined by members of the current PNG Pukpuks squad and the coach of the PNG U-20 women’s soccer team, Lisa Cole.

From November 25 through  to December 10, Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence aim to raise public awareness and mobilising people everywhere to bring about change.

According to www.unwomen.org, it is estimated that 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner at some point in their lives.

However, some national studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime (1).
