Oil Search Foundation to build on responsibilities, development

Oil Search’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development is part of our DNA says Chairman Rick Lee.

The chairman of the oil and gas company said during the rebranding of the company’s humanitarian arm – Oil Search Foundation.

“Oil Search has been operating in PNG since 1929, we are PNG’s largest company, and we are proud that Papua New Guineans make up more than 85% of our workforce – they are the key to our success,” Lee said.

“We are known as the key local partner in the country’s biggest private sector investment, the $US19 billion PNG LNG Project. We are committed to ensuing our impact in PNG goes well beyond our position as the country’s largest non-government employer.

“The Oil Search Foundation is one of the more visible ways in which Oil Search is contributing towards improved outcomes for the people of PNG.

“Since Oil Search established the Foundation in 2011, it has impacted the lives of women, children and families in our supported areas through our health programs. We have helped to save the lives of mothers by increasing their access to safe, secure and skilled Oil Search Foundation,” Lee said.

Early this week Oil Search Board committed K185 million (USD $56 million) to fund its core signature programmes for 2016 to 2020.

Foundation CEO Kymberley Kepore thanked Oil Search for the funding and said, “As part of our expansion we are focusing on two additional development priorities for PNG.

“We are expanding our programmes into the areas of Leadership and Education and Women’s Protection and Empowerment.”
