Officer cadet training progressing

The officer cadet training at the Defence Academy at Lae’s Igam Barracks is on schedule with this year's graduating class cadets due to pass out in October.

PNGDF Chief of Staff Colonel Mark Goina says the new intakes will start in January next year.

Goina says that current numbers sit between 50 to 65 intakes to allow for infrastructure but to also allow for additional cadet training in Australia, New Zealand, India and China.

Currently there are the graduate class and the junior class in the academy.

Goina says that the graduate class consists of cadets that have gone through 18 months of training and are due to graduate while the junior class this year have clocked almost 6 months’ worth of training so far.
