Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will be officially handing over the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) chair to the president of the Federated States of Micronesia H.E. Peter Christian at the opening ceremony of the 47th PIF this evening.
O’Neill is the outgoing Chair of the PIF, after the Summit was held in Port Moresby in 2015.
He will officially handover Chair responsibilities to Christian infront of all the member country representatives.
The 47th Pacific Island Forum (PIF) Summit in the Federated States of Micronesia started on Sept 7 and will end on Sept 11, 2016.
Fisheries sector will be the main discussion of the forum along with climate change and extreme weather which is affecting the Forum countries.
Other issues also to be discussed by the leaders include business mobility, the drawdown of RAMSI, Gender Equality, Cybercrime and disaster risk management.
