Nukundj leads way with successful implementation of DSIP projects

The Dei District in Western Highlands has achieved a lot in terms of basic government goods and services through the newly created district development authority (DDA) with first term MP Wesley Nukundj leading the way.

The district was once in a deplorable stage over the years and now it is experiencing a major infrastructures being implemented in terms of education, health, roads and bridges. 

One of the major success of the DDA is the rehabilitation and building of new double classrooms and dormitories for both elementary, primary and secondary schools as well as up-grading and sealing of all feeder and new roads within the district.

Construction of bridges, subsidising school fees, district machineries were also purchased to service the road network providing accessibility to transport coffee and other garden produce to the nearest markets to sell.

The district is also known for producing quality coffee and hosts several plantations, contributing lot to the country’s economic scene. The Kuk archaeological site is also found there and has a great potential for tourist attraction.    

First term MP Wesley Nukundj announced that infrastructure development projects worth over K30 million has been expanded to change the face of the forgotten Dei District.

The Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) on their routine DSIP monitoring patrol to the district were impressed with the physical infrastructures implemented on the ground.

The government officials comprising of DIRD, Prime Minister and National Executive Council applauded the district administration for their efforts in implementing impact projects which would benefit the rural populations.  

Team Leader Michael Omba said Dei district has implemented projects and programs according to the five year development plans.

“We could say the district achieved so much within the three years, fulfilling the government’s Vision 2050 and Medium Term Development Plans and we acknowledged the support of the people of district as well as the LLGs and other stakeholders for the successful implementation of DDA’s resolution,”  Omba said.

Some of the notable impact projects implemented in the district include;

-              4 x double classrooms for Kondopina High School

-              5 X Staff houses for Kondopina High School

-              5 x staff houses for Nunga High School, before it was a Primary School but was converted

               to High School which is a feeder school for Kitip Secondary School

-              4 in one double classrooms for Nunga High School

-              Malam-Minjam road

-              Dei-Tiki- Baiyer road project

-              Yan bridge

-              Double classrooms for Kitip Secondary School

-              Kotna Sub-Health Centre project under construction

-              Kuiya bridge

-              Tiki High School

-              Construction of public servants houses for Penga station

-              Purchased of Generator for the district administration

-              Installation of VSat, connected to the district office and Muglamp Primary

             School

-                  4 x district machineries for up-grading and maintaining of district feeder roads

-                   Kuiya Steel bridge

-                   Eng-Muglamp road up-grading project

The building materials are provided by the Hardware Haus Limited for the construction of classrooms, bridges, health centres, teachers’ houses and others which are cost effective.

Most villagers and communities interviewed have expressed gratitude for MP Nukundj for being instrumental in successfully delivering basic services.

They thanked Nukundj and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for allocating DSIP funds directly to the district which they are physically witnessing projects and programs being implemented on the ground.

“With the allocation of such money, we are feeling the impact of service delivery which has been denied by the successive government over the years. Therefore, DSIP or PSIP program must be continued,” they stressed.
