NRI launches new website

The National Research Institute is committed to building a PNG knowledge hub to address development issues.

This was the message during the official launching of the NRI’s new website today in Port Moresby.

NRI Senior Deputy Director, Dr David Ayres, said the goal of the new website is to bring together stakeholders, the government, and interested researchers to begin to address and think about the development challenges in Papua New Guinea.

“Central to the PNG knowledge hub and central to the NRI is our motto which we call the three I’s which are ‘inquire, inform, influence,” said Ayres.

“We see our new website as a critical component in that process of enabling people to have access to information.”
The new website will contain all of the NRI’s publication and reports from the 1970’s to the present.

They are currently in the vigorous process of digitising all of their publications.

Ayres says the investment in the Internet has saved them hundred of thousands of kina.

“We had an industrial printer here on the campus and we used to print multiple copies of all of our reports,” says Ayres.

“While we sold those materials we never quite recovered the cost of printing those reports.”

The launching of the website coincided with the launch of the institutes new report “Why are internet rates high in Papua New Guinea.”
