NRI to create new Knowledge Hub

The National Research Institute has begun the process of transforming its Waigani Campus into the PNG Knowledge Hub.

The hub will bring together a community of organisations, leaders, researchers, consultants, academics, government and private sector people.

The Knowledge Hub will be focused in generating, processing, storing, transferring and applying knowledge. In a presentation today, NRI Director Dr Charles Yala said the only way to effectively confront the development challenges faced by PNG will be to bring stakeholders together.

He said stakeholders working together will be more productive than stakeholders working in isolation.

The Institute has already made progress in establishing the hub with support from the Australian Government that assisted with initial IT investments.

Work will soon commence on the refurbishment of the NRI Research Building. Funding will come from a public private partnership which will be established.

The total cost for fully establishing the hub is K125 million. NRI aims are to be self-sufficient where revenues from the PNG Knowledge Hub will support NRI research activities.
