No fatalities in the Gordon brawl

No fatalities have been reported by police during the commotion between the vendors and youths residing in the vicinity of Gordon market this morning.

However, police are still monitoring the situation.

It is alleged that some drunkard youths who was believed to be children of police officers from the Gordon Police Barracks approached a young woman who had just got off from a PMV, snatched her hand bag and ran away.

However, informal market vendors and some of the bus drivers and crew fought back and chased the drunkard youths back into the police barracks.

The youths returned with some off-duty policemen who tried to fight back the vendors.

The off-duty officers said they only came out to defend the police barracks of which the vendors tried to take advantage of that and fight against them.

According to NCDC Superintendent for Operation Brian Kombe, it was just fortunate enough that PSC Gordons and his men as well as other on duty officer were able to step in and control the situation.

Kombe confirmed that some shot as well as tear gas was fired into the air.

He said this was only to disperse the fighting commotion and bring everything to a standstill although the youths claim otherwise and that the police was taking the side of the drunk youths from the barracks and firing gun shots at the informal vendors.

He added that the lady whose bag was snatched needs to come to Gordon police station and file a report and give her statement as this will help in the investigation of finding the instigators to this brawl incident that took place in the morning.
