New taskforce to investigate threats against State

A National Joint Security Taskforce (NJST) has been established to investigate threats against the State and public welfare.

Government chief secretary Isaac Lupari made this known today in Port Moresby, flanked by heads of key government agencies which includes the three disciplinary forces.

This is one of the resolutions reached by the National Advisory Security Council after constant threats to disrupt services in recent months for Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to step down.

The newly established NJST will be operating under the command of the Police Commissioner and supported by PNG Defence Force, Correctional Services, Department of Justice and Attorney General, National Intelligence Organization and the National Advisory Security Council.

"The main aim of this taskforce will be to investigate threats to our national security,” Lupari said.

"Politicians, landowners, public, students, landowners and any members of the community who issue threats will be investigated, arrested and prosecuted.”

Lupari said the National Executive Council will be advised next week and the new taskforce will be fully-funded.
