New police chiefs warned: do well or walk

The current crop of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) must serve the maximum of three terms. If they don't get elevated in that time, then they must leave.

Commissioner of Police Gari Baki told the newly promoted ACPs that within that time frame, they must make their way to become one of the two deputy commissioners of police.

"You can stay at least three terms which is a total of nine years.  And within that time frame, you must vie for one of the two deputy posts. If you can't make it then you must exit and make way for the up and coming officers to be elevated, “ he said.

The Commissioner said if they had their own initiatives and strategies to shape and develop the Constabulary, it had to be done within the time frame he mentioned.

He said their promotion had come of age and they were fortunate to be appointed but must perform to expectations.

He said they will be his agents of change and must live up to that label.

With the mass promotions of the ACPs, all ACP posts were filled and there were no more positions vacant.

Six of them were vacant posts being filled while the rest were reclassified or established.
