New Board appointed for National Airport Corporation

A new Board has been appointed for the National Airport Corporation (NAC).

The seven member board, appointed by the National Executive Council, was announced on Monday by Minister for Civil Aviation Davis Steven.

The board will be headed by new acting managing director and chief executive officer Richard Yopo and Chairman Reuben Aila, who represents the Chamber of Commerce.

The board comprises of deputy chairman Jerry Agus who is the shareholder nominee and chief executive officer of the Tourism Promotion Authority, current managing director for PNG Country Tours, Wako Napasu, Michael Koison who is the aviation representative, and government representatives Secretary for Transport Roy Mumu and Secretary for Treasury Dairi Vele.

Minister Steven welcomed the members of the new board during the announcement and said this is the time to regroup, rethink and chart a new path forward for NAC.

Steven pointed out that NAC has not had a clear run in terms of a board that has continued for its full term of three years due to ongoing court case battles.

He said that within the nine months in the term of the current government, he hopes that the board will make history in running its full term.

“It’s very important from Government’s point of view that NAC, after almost six years of its existence, is allowed to address a lot of the issues going forward.

“Especially when you have a government that is pushing a lot of agendas that impacts this sector,” Steven said.

Steven challenged the board to look at the big challenge ahead and that is working towards achieving the 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit expectations.
