NEC to decide plans for drought disaster

Finance Minister James Marape says the National Executive Council will meet today to discuss what actions the government will take to alleviate drought effects heading into next year.

Marape explained that the initial K25 million allocated in the budget was expended during the frost period that affected the Highlands and other parts of the country.

He says the government decided that to make things easier its members are now allowed to use up to K2 million to respond to drought/frost affected areas.

Marape says an announcement will be made tomorrow.  The government will also reflect this  in its budget for the 2016 allocation for disaster response.

Marape was responding to questions raised by Telifomin MP Solan Mirisim.
