NCDC cannot do much with petty crimes at Gordons

The Gordon bus stop and market vicinity is a haven for petty crimes in Port Moresby.

National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop says when the reconstruction of Gordon’s Market is complete; the place will be much safer because security features had been taken into consideration in its design.

He says NCDC cannot do much now as petty crimes happen outside of the market, which falls under the jurisdiction of the police.

“It is the police primary responsible; it is the problem which happens outside of the market, not inside the market,” Parkop told Loop PNG.

He added that police and NCDC must partner together to make the place safe for the general public.

The Gordon’s Police Station is located 100 metres away from the market and bus stop areas.

Police have now started foot patrols in the afternoons to enforce law and order in the area.
