NCD schools debate environmental issues

Seven schools took part in a debate to mark World Environment Day

The schools were Jubilee, Gerehu, Port Moresby National High, Marianville, Kilakila, De La Salle and Charles Lwanga High School. The debate took place at the Gateway Hotel in Moresby.

World Environment Day is on Friday 5 June celebrated with the theme ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care’.

The students debated  two main topics for the Government and Opposition.

The Government debated on the topic ‘PNG must focus on managing its increasing population needs and its rapid consumption of resources and maintain its diverse rich resources and ecosystems’.

While the Opposition debated on the topic ‘PNG as a developing country should continue to focus on using its resources for infrastructure development, economy empowerment and meeting individual needs’.

The schools put on a great challenge with the winners to be announced on Friday.

Head judge Titus Kuman was impressed with the individual schools’ performances and thanked each school for the hard work in their preparations.

He said by listening to the points discussed, it shows that they’ve studied the topic well and this knowledge will help them in their future endeavours in dealing with environmental issues.
