National Football Stadium to remain Hunters home for next 5 years

The National Football Stadium (NFS) will remain as the home ground for the SP Hunters after a five year deal was signed yesterday afternoon between the Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees and the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL).

The signing which took place at the Naked Fish restaurant in Port Moresby was witnessed by stakeholders from the government and corporate sector including Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko and Managing Director of SP Brewery, Stan Joyce.

Chairman of the Lloyd Robson Oval Trustees and Managing Director of Oil Search, Peter Botten said the he was proud and happy to be extending the partnership with the PNGRFL.

‘We believe this arrangement lays the foundation for a long term partnership ensuring we can work together to further build the great game of rugby league from the grass roots to the international level.

“Working together, we believe we can provide a top class product for rugby league players and fans in PNG,” said Botten.

Chairman of the PNGRFL, Sandis Tsaka said the partnership was not just good for the Hunters but for the greater development of rugby league in PNG.

“The NFS is world class facility – it is amongst the best in the region. The interest and enthusiasm demonstrated by supporters this year has been excellent and we are pleased with the increased attendance since holding our games at the NFS.

“We look forward to bringing the people to watch all the Hunters home games over the next five years,” said Tsaka.
