Motion seeking prevention of Commissioner’s inquiry adjourned

A motion filed by director of National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate Matthew Damaru seeking orders to restrain the Police Commissioner’s inquiry has been adjourned to tomorrow.

The motion was brought to the National Court’s Justice Allan David this morning amongst other motions from parties involved in the proceeding filed by Damaru against his suspension of April 16.

Damaru’s lawyer Greg Egan briefly informed the court of the motion that was filed on April 29.

The motion seeks orders of the National Court to prevent Commissioner Gari Baki from conducting an inquiry into the directorate as well as lift the blockade of the fraud.

The inquiry into the office has since commenced.

It also contained a contempt motion against Commissioner Baki’s closure of the fraud office as per the court’s order of April 18 restraining Baki from interfering with the functions of the office.

Meanwhile, Assistant Police Commissioner Crime, Victor Isouve yesterday informed the media that the office of the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate will reopen today at 1.30pm.
