Minister says Govt taking action on disasters of future

Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato says the National Government has taken on board long term measures to counter future drought and natural disasters in the country.

Pato when addressing the Asia Pacific Economies Corporation ministers on addressing environmental impacts in Philippines said “the long term focus must be on research of drought resilient crops, food processing and technology and accessibility’’.

He also proposed for establishment of a regional relief assistance framework for APEC member countries that can find solutions and responses when member states face disasters.

Pato added that electricity connectivity in the country is a big problem and sharing of knowledge by member APEC countries will help.

“PNG welcomes the sharing of knowledge and experience on the use of other sources of energy that has less negative impact on the environment as we endeavor to enable cheaper and reliable energy accessibility to everyone.”
