Minister Gore’s judicial review on today

The judicial review into the Leadership Tribunal’s recommended three months suspension from misconduct in office for Minister for Community Development and Sohe MP Delilah Gore will start today.

The review will come before Justice Les Gavara-Nanu at the Waigani National Court following Gore’s successful bid to halt the head of state from making her three month suspension effective.

On September 10 Justice Gavara-Nanu allowed the stay application on the basis that the application was urgent as the applicant was a member of parliament.

Her lawyers had argued then that the Leadership Tribunal in handing down its penalty decision did not take into account the period she was already suspended for.

Gore was suspended with pay during the period of her tribunal investigation sitting that went on for two months.

On August 10, the tribunal recommended that the leader be suspended without entitlements for a further three months as her penalty for issuing sacking threats to a cabin crew member on board an Air Niugini flight.

On Septemnber 4 Justice Stephen Kassman allowed leave for the judicial review of Gore’s application.

On September 10 Justice Gavara-Nanu granted a stay to refrain the head of state from making her three month suspension effective.
