Manus back at softball titles after 30 years

It’s been more than 30 years since Manus last made an appearance at the national softball championships, and for them, the rebuilding process has begun.

Manus could only manage to send one team (men’s) to this year’s softball championships at the Bisini Grounds.

Despite being winless so far, the boys from the Admiralty islands have won the hearts of many people for their never say die attitude.

Coach Jayso James said this year’s championships will be used as a learning curve for his players.

“The softball competition in Manus died out in the 1980s and was only just revived back in 2013.

“We have all learnt a lot playing at this level. Despite losing all our games so far, one of our best games was this afternoon against the NCD Meros where we lost 7-1. It was our best game so far.

“The players will take a lot back from the championships and impart knowledge back on the players at home,” said James.

James finished by saying his team was ready to give a good challenge in their game tomorrow against the Canberra Giants.
